Archaeological excavations of Sybaris Archaeological
Museum of the Sybarities brezio centre Castiglione of Paludi, way back
for Cropalati, Crosia, Rossano Scalo.
Starting from Rossano Scalo and running
across the S.S. 106, at the km. 24, people reach Parco del Cavallo locality
where it is possible to visit the excavations of Sybaris and a permanent
exhibition: (visiting hours 9.00 - 12.30 a.m.; 3.00 until an hour before
the sunset p.m.). Moreover, at Sybaris Station (km. 5 from the excavations)
it can be visited the Museum of the Sybarites: (visiting hours: 9.00 -
13.00 a.m.; 4.30 - 6.30 p.m.), which preserves the archaeological reports
of Francavilla M.ma area (necropolis of Macchiabate e Sanctuary of Athena
on the Timpone Motta).
Running over S.S. 106 bis again towards
Rossano; 5 Km. after Rossano Scalo there is the cross-road for Amica country
sude which leads to Paludi, where it is well - advsed to visit the historical
centre and the old brezio settling down of Castiglione. Moreover it can
be admired buildings and an imposing masonry town-walls with towers of
the 4th century B.C. (see Paludi).The excursion can be concluded coming
back the S.S. 117 for Cropalati by visiting the historical centre (the
remains of the medieval castle are interesting). Then, taking the S.S.
531 it is possible to visit Crosia (historical centre with particular
reference to the remains of the defensive system Torre Tecla and Mirto
Castle). Following the coast of S.S.106 bis you come back Rossano.
